I've never been into James Gleeson's paintings much, but I am always deeply affected by his black and white drawings and collages that are the starting point for his larger works. There is a raw, surprising quality to them that i enjoy and a very sensual, ether-like use of charcoal. Apologies I couldn't find any really good reproductions.
